[Kikimora signs off. When Malcolm next sees her, she’s carefully walking down the hallway, holding in her arms a…wholly unfortunate-looking little creature.

Most palisman look like a combination of some human animals. This one has the head, scales, and powerful jaw of a crocodile, and the body and tail of a lizard. She rolls her eye to stare at Malcolm…and then shimmers, supposedly “disappearing” before his eyes]

Oh my god she’s beautiful! [He’s distracted, for a moment, from the Very Important Thing.]

She’s a crocochameleon. A creature who hides until she gets near enough to snap her prey apart!

[Kiki pets the invisible palisman, encouraging her to make herself visible again]

I’ve decided to call her Scalpel. Tiny but sharp and cutting out the rot.
