Unfortunately, Warden Bright has proven himself to be immensely stubborn about the return of my own magic. He believes I would use it to harass others, but he forgets that I can and have caused plenty of mischief aboard this ship without them. He believes magic is a privilege to be earned.

It is the same thing as magic, a skill that we have learned and practiced and can certainly use to cause trouble, and yet no warden would think of ripping our our tongues!

I KNOW. But try explaining that to a human who comes from a magicless world and has never had cause to get along without it.

The only other person from my world here is someone who never had innate magic to BEGIN with. My warden is far too preoccupied with me making friends. He believes I don't need magic to defend myself since I didn't die during my long stint of being wardenless, but I lacked the articulation to make him understand why I needed it back!
Of course I do! [ he huffs. ] And the fact that you didn't die without magic is ridiculous. All that means is that you were lucky, not that you suddenly have the skills needed to defend yourself.
If all your warden needs to give you your magic back is proof that you have friends, then that should be easy enough. After all, we are already friends. [ they had like, two conversations, but Strange likes Kiki. It's so refreshing to know someone who feels the same way that you do, who's suffering in the same way, who just gets it. ]
I shall inform him of that fact and plead your case for you.
[oh she is not used to sudden overtures of friendship. Kiki hesitates but it's rare she gets along so well with someone at the jump, without worrying what they want from her in return. She KNOWS what Strange wants; the same things she does. It's..nice, it being so easy]
I would do the same for you, but I don't know what you've tried with Warden Una just yet. I believe Malcolm requires proof I will not use my magic in a way he deems unfit.
I am not sure myself. My first actions when I arrived here were...misguided. I suspect she wants proof I will not use my magic in a way that will harm others. Though I have no idea how she expects me to obtain that proof if she makes it so my magic cannot harm people to begin with.
I'm glad to see we're on the same page on that matter as well. I have no idea how they expect us to accomplish their goals under these horrible circumstances!
Exactly. I understand that they want us to be self-sufficient without our magic, that we should be able to manage and grow on our own, but there will be very few times I am without my magic back home. If my personal growth is dependent on a lack of magic, then surely it would revert the moment I receive my magic back.
And besides, the circumstances that killed me would not be solved if I do not have magic! If anything, I should have my magic back to full strength so that when I graduate this place, I am not instantly thrown to the wolves.
While I appreciate the offer, wouldn't that make it less likely for your warden to give you your magic back? No, we both should be in life-threatening danger but individually, in different opportunities. That way our wardens would see that magic is useful for defending ourselves and solving whatever problems come our way.

Though I would prefer not to die, of course. I do not trust the Admiral in the slightest. Bringing people back from the dead is never as easy as he makes it seem.
On the contrary, I think it is showing the wardens just how important our magic is to us. After all, there are very few things I would do a fool-hearty action to obtain. Magic is one of them.
Alas, I never really had any need to know medicinal arts. When I fought in the peninsula, I was mostly on the offensive line, nothing to support the soldiers directly.
That will not stop me, however. I can research that sort of magic and then attempt to craft a spell myself.
